Description
Kolosal™ w/v is a sterile & pyrogen free solution of Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride and Sodium Acetate (as Trihydrate) in Water for Injections.

Indications
Kolosal™ contains different electrolytes which are usually depleted in various conditions e.g. diarrhea, vomiting, profuse sweating etc. So, Kolosal™ is indicated in cholera, also in diarrhea, vomiting, and fluid loss to replenish and restore the normal electrolyte balance of the body.

Dosage and Administration
The volume and rate of infusion of Cholera Saline depends upon the requirements of the patient and the judgment of the physician. It usually varies with age, weight and clinical condition of the patient.

Side Effects
Malaise, low-grade fever, headache, generalized aches and pains, flushing, generalized urticaria, tachycardia and hypotension may occur. Reactions at the site of the injection may occasionally occur, usually within 5 to 7 days. These include erythema, swelling, pain, tenderness or induration.

Contraindications
Defer administration in the presence of acute respiratory or other active infections. Administration of saline to a patient taking corticosteroids or other immunosuppressive agents may result in an altered immune response and should be avoided if possible.

Precautions & Warning
Since Cholera Saline contains different electrolytes, it should be infused with caution in patients where electrolyte imbalance may cause detrimental effects, e.g. in pregnancy, renal impairment, heart failure, pulmonary congestion, head injury etc. or in patients receiving potassium sparing diuretics.
In Pregnancy: Pregnancy Category B. Infusion of fluid should be immediately discontinued if rigor arises for any reason during the process. Do not use if the solution is cloudy, contains particles, or after expiry date.

Pharmaceutical Precaution
Kolosal™ should be stored at controlled room temperature.
